Zechariah 4

World English Bible (WEB)

1 Ref The angel who talked with me came again, and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep.

2 Ref He said to me, "What do you see?" I said, "I have seen, and, behold, a lampstand all of gold, with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are on the top of it;

3 Ref and two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl, and the other on the left side of it."

4 Ref I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, "What are these, my lord?"

5 Ref Then the angel who talked with me answered me, "Don't you know what these are?" I said, "No, my lord."

6 Ref Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of Yahweh to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says Yahweh of Hosts.

7 Ref Who are you, great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you are a plain; and he will bring out the capstone with shouts of 'Grace, grace, to it!'"

8 Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

9 Ref "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house. His hands shall also finish it; and you will know that Yahweh of Hosts has sent me to you.

10 Ref Indeed, who despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are the eyes of Yahweh, which run back and forth through the whole earth."

11 Ref Then I asked him, "What are these two olive trees on the right side of the lampstand and on the left side of it?"

12 Ref I asked him the second time, "What are these two olive-branches, which are beside the two golden spouts, that pour the golden oil out of themselves?"

13 Ref He answered me, "Don't you know what these are?" I said, "No, my lord."

14 Ref Then he said, "These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth."

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref And the angel who was talking to me came again, awaking me as a man out of his sleep.

2 Ref And he said to me, What do you see? And I said, I see a light-support, made all of gold, with its cup on the top of it and seven lights on it; and there are seven pipes to every one of the lights which are on the top of it;

3 Ref And two olive-trees by it, one on the right side of the cup and one on the left.

4 Ref And I made answer and said to the angel who was talking to me, What are these, my lord?

5 Ref Then the angel who was talking to me, answering me, said, Have you no knowledge of what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

6 Ref This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by force or by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of armies.

7 Ref Who are you, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel you will become level: and he will let all see the headstone, with cries of Grace, grace, to it.

8 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 Ref The hands of Zerubbabel have put the base of this house in place, and his hands will make it complete; and it will be clear to you that the Lord of armies has sent me to you.

10 Ref For who has had a poor opinion of the day of small things? for they will be glad when they see the weighted measuring-line in the hand of Zerubbabel. Then he said in answer to me, These seven lights are the eyes of the Lord which go quickly up and down through all the earth.

11 Ref And I made answer and said to him, What are these two olive-trees on the right side of the light-support and on the left?

12 Ref And answering a second time, I said to him, What are these two olive branches, through whose gold pipes the oil is drained out?

13 Ref And he said in answer to me, Have you no knowledge what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

14 Ref And he said, These are the two sons of oil, whose place is by the Lord of all the earth.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref And the messenger who is speaking with me doth turn back, and stir me up as one who is stirred up out of his sleep,

2 Ref and he saith unto me, `What art thou seeing?' And I say, `I have looked, and lo, a candlestick of gold -- all of it, and its bowl `is' on its top, and its seven lamps `are' upon it, and twice seven pipes `are' to the lights that `are' on its top,

3 Ref and two olive-trees `are' by it, one on the right of the bowl, and one on its left.'

4 Ref And I answer and speak unto the messenger who is speaking with me, saying, `What `are' these, my lord?'

5 Ref And the messenger who is speaking with me answereth and saith unto me, `Hast thou not known what these `are'?' And I say, `No, my lord.'

6 Ref And he answereth and speaketh unto me, saying: `This `is' a word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying: Not by a force, nor by power, But -- by My Spirit, said Jehovah of Hosts.

7 Ref Who `art' thou, O great mountain Before Zerubbabel -- for a plain! And he hath brought forth the top-stone, Cries of Grace, grace -- `are' to it.'

8 And there is a word of Jehovah to me, saying,

9 Ref Hands of Zerubbabel did found this house, And his hands do finish it, And thou hast known that Jehovah of Hosts Hath sent me unto you.

10 Ref For who trampled on the day of small things, They have rejoiced, And seen the tin weight in the hand of Zerubbabel, These seven `are' the eyes of Jehovah, They are going to and fro in all the land.'

11 Ref And I answer and say unto him, `What `are' these two olive-trees, on the right of the candlestick, and on its left?'

12 Ref And I answer a second time, and say unto him, `What `are' the two branches of the olive trees that, by means of the two golden pipes, are emptying out of themselves the oil?'

13 Ref And he speaketh unto me, saying, `Hast thou not known what these `are'?' And I say, `No, my lord.'

14 Ref And he saith, `These `are' the two sons of the oil, who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.'
