¹⁴ For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear in pieces and go away. I will carry off, and there will be no one to deliver.

⁸ The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, In the midst of many peoples, Like a lion among the animals of the forest, Like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; Who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, And there is no one to deliver.

² Lest they tear apart my soul like a lion, Ripping it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

⁷ Therefore am I to them like a lion; Like a leopard I will lurk by the path.

⁸ I will meet them like a bear that is bereaved of her cubs, And will tear the covering of their heart. And there I will devour them like a lioness. The wild animal will tear them.

²⁹ Their roaring will be like a lioness. They will roar like young lions. Yes, they shall roar, And seize their prey and carry it off, And there will be no one to deliver.

²² "Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver.

⁴ Will a lion roar in the thicket, When he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den, If he has caught nothing?

⁵ Can a bird fall in a trap on the earth, Where no snare is set for him? Does a snare spring up from the ground, When there is nothing to catch?

⁶ Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, Without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, And Yahweh hasn't done it?

⁷ Surely the Lord Yahweh will do nothing, Unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

⁸ The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord Yahweh has spoken. Who can but prophesy?

¹⁴ Flight will perish from the swift; And the strong won't strengthen his force; Neither shall the mighty deliver himself;

¹⁰ He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

¹⁶ If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.

⁷ Although you know that I am not wicked, There is no one who can deliver out of your hand.

³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to save you.
