1 Thessalonians 5

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

2 Ref for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

3 Ref for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail `doth' her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

4 Ref and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

5 Ref all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

6 Ref so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

7 Ref for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

8 Ref and we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

9 Ref because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Ref who did die for us, that whether we wake -- whether we sleep -- together with him we may live;

11 Ref wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

12 Ref And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

13 Ref and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

14 Ref and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

15 Ref see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

16 Ref always rejoice ye;

17 Ref continually pray ye;

18 Ref in every thing give thanks, for this `is' the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

19 Ref The Spirit quench not;

20 Ref prophesyings despise not;

21 Ref all things prove; that which is good hold fast;

22 Ref from all appearance of evil abstain ye;

23 Ref and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

24 Ref stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do `it'.

25 Ref Brethren, pray for us;

26 Ref salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

27 Ref I charge you `by' the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

28 Ref the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ `is' with you! Amen.

1 Ref But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.

2 Ref For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 Ref When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

4 Ref But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:

5 Ref for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;

6 Ref so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.

7 Ref For they that sleep sleep in the night: and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.

8 Ref But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

9 Ref For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Ref who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Ref Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

12 Ref But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13 Ref and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

14 Ref And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.

15 Ref See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.

16 Ref Rejoice always;

17 Ref pray without ceasing;

18 Ref in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.

19 Ref Quench not the Spirit;

20 Ref despise not prophesyings;

21 Ref prove all things; hold fast that which is good;

22 Ref abstain from every form of evil.

23 Ref And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Ref Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it.

25 Ref Brethren, pray for us.

26 Ref Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.

27 Ref I adjure you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the brethren.

28 Ref The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
