John 7
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Ref And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for he did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him,
2 Ref and the feast of the Jews was nigh -- that of tabernacles --
3 Ref his brethren, therefore, said unto him, `Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works that thou dost;
4 Ref for no one in secret doth anything, and himself seeketh to be in public; if thou dost these things -- manifest thyself to the world;'
5 Ref for not even were his brethren believing in him.
6 Ref Jesus, therefore, saith to them, `My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;
7 Ref the world is not able to hate you, but me it doth hate, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.
8 Ref Ye -- go ye up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time hath not yet been fulfilled;'
9 and saying these things to them, he remained in Galilee.
10 Ref And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret;
11 Ref the Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, `Where is that one?'
12 Ref and there was much murmuring about him among the multitudes, some indeed said -- `He is good;' and others said, `No, but he leadeth astray the multitude;'
13 Ref no one, however, was speaking freely about him, through fear of the Jews.
14 Ref And it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the temple, and he was teaching,
15 Ref and the Jews were wondering, saying, `How hath this one known letters -- not having learned?'
16 Ref Jesus answered them and said, `My teaching is not mine, but His who sent me;
17 Ref if any one may will to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or -- I do speak from myself.
18 Ref `He who is speaking from himself his own glory doth seek, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;
19 Ref hath not Moses given you the law? and none of you doth the law; why me do ye seek to kill?'
20 Ref The multitude answered and said, `Thou hast a demon, who doth seek to kill thee?'
21 Ref Jesus answered and said to them, `One work I did, and ye all wonder,
22 Ref because of this, Moses hath given you the circumcision -- not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers -- and on a sabbath ye circumcise a man;
23 Ref if a man doth receive circumcision on a sabbath that the law of Moses may not be broken, are ye wroth with me that I made a man all whole on a sabbath?
24 Ref judge not according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.'
25 Ref Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, `Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill?
26 Ref and, lo, he doth speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ?
27 Ref but this one -- we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he doth come, no one doth know whence he is.'
28 Ref Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, `Ye have both known me, and ye have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom ye have not known;
29 Ref and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He did send me.'
30 Ref They were seeking, therefore, to seize him, and no one laid the hand on him, because his hour had not yet come,
31 Ref and many out of the multitude did believe in him, and said -- `The Christ -- when he may come -- will he do more signs than these that this one did?'
32 Ref The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take him;
33 Ref Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Yet a little time I am with you, and I go away unto Him who sent me;
34 Ref ye will seek me, and ye shall not find; and where I am, ye are not able to come.'
35 Ref The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, `Whither is this one about to go that we shall not find him? -- to the dispersion of the Greeks is he about to go? and to teach the Greeks;
36 Ref what is this word that he said, Ye will seek me, and ye shall not find? and, Where I am, ye are not able to come?'
37 Ref And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, `If any one doth thirst, let him come unto me and drink;
38 Ref he who is believing in me, according as the Writing said, Rivers out of his belly shall flow of living water;'
39 Ref and this he said of the Spirit, which those believing in him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
40 Ref Many, therefore out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, `This is truly the Prophet;'
41 Ref others said, `This is the Christ;' and others said, `Why, out of Galilee doth the Christ come?
42 Ref Did not the Writing say, that out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem -- the village where David was -- the Christ doth come?'
43 Ref A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of him.
44 Ref And certain of them were willing to seize him, but no one laid hands on him;
45 Ref the officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, `Wherefore did ye not bring him?'
46 Ref The officers answered, `Never so spake man -- as this man.'
47 Ref The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, `Have ye also been led astray?
48 Ref did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees?
49 Ref but this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.'
50 Ref Nicodemus saith unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them,
51 Ref `Doth our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he doth?'
52 Ref They answered and said to him, `Art thou also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee hath not risen;'
53 Ref and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the mount of the Olives.
King James Version (KJV)
1 Ref After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Ref Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 Ref His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4 Ref For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5 Ref For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6 Ref Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7 Ref The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 Ref Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.
9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10 Ref But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11 Ref Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12 Ref And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13 Ref Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14 Ref Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15 Ref And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
16 Ref Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17 Ref If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18 Ref He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19 Ref Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
20 Ref The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
21 Ref Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
22 Ref Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
23 Ref If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
24 Ref Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25 Ref Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26 Ref But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27 Ref Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28 Ref Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
29 Ref But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
30 Ref Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31 Ref And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32 Ref The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33 Ref Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34 Ref Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35 Ref Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36 Ref What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
37 Ref In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 Ref He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 Ref (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 Ref Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41 Ref Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Ref Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43 Ref So there was a division among the people because of him.
44 Ref And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45 Ref Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46 Ref The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47 Ref Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48 Ref Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49 Ref But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50 Ref Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51 Ref Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52 Ref They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
