1 Peter 5

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref Elders who `are' among you, I exhort, who `am' a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker,

2 Ref feed the flock of God that `is' among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind,

3 Ref neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock,

4 Ref and at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory.

5 Ref In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace;

6 Ref be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time,

7 Ref all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you.

8 Ref Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up,

9 Ref whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished.

10 Ref And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle `you';

11 Ref to Him `is' the glory, and the power -- to the ages and the ages! Amen.

12 Ref Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few `words' I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood.

13 Ref Salute you doth the `assembly' in Babylon jointly elected, and Markus my son.

14 Ref Salute ye one another in a kiss of love; peace to you all who `are' in Christ Jesus! Amen.

World English Bible (WEB)

1 Ref I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed.

2 Ref Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;

3 Ref neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock.

4 Ref When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away.

5 Ref Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

6 Ref Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

7 Ref casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

8 Ref Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

9 Ref Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.

10 Ref But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

11 Ref To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

12 Ref Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.

13 Ref She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son.

14 Ref Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

King James Version (KJV)

1 Ref The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Ref Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Ref Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

4 Ref And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

5 Ref Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Ref Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Ref Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Ref Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Ref Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 Ref But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11 Ref To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 Ref By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

13 Ref The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

14 Ref Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
