Zechariah 4

American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)

1 Ref And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.

2 Ref And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have seen, and, behold, a candlestick all of gold, with its bowl upon the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are upon the top thereof;

3 Ref and two olive-trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

4 Ref And I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?

5 Ref Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

6 Ref Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith Jehovah of hosts.

7 Ref Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel `thou shalt become' a plain; and he shall bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.

8 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

9 Ref The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you.

10 Ref For who hath despised the day of small things? for these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel; `these are' the eyes of Jehovah, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

11 Ref Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?

12 Ref And I answered the second time, and said unto him, What are these two olive-branches, which are beside the two golden spouts, that empty the golden `oil' out of themselves?

13 Ref And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

14 Ref Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref And the angel who was talking to me came again, awaking me as a man out of his sleep.

2 Ref And he said to me, What do you see? And I said, I see a light-support, made all of gold, with its cup on the top of it and seven lights on it; and there are seven pipes to every one of the lights which are on the top of it;

3 Ref And two olive-trees by it, one on the right side of the cup and one on the left.

4 Ref And I made answer and said to the angel who was talking to me, What are these, my lord?

5 Ref Then the angel who was talking to me, answering me, said, Have you no knowledge of what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

6 Ref This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by force or by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of armies.

7 Ref Who are you, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel you will become level: and he will let all see the headstone, with cries of Grace, grace, to it.

8 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 Ref The hands of Zerubbabel have put the base of this house in place, and his hands will make it complete; and it will be clear to you that the Lord of armies has sent me to you.

10 Ref For who has had a poor opinion of the day of small things? for they will be glad when they see the weighted measuring-line in the hand of Zerubbabel. Then he said in answer to me, These seven lights are the eyes of the Lord which go quickly up and down through all the earth.

11 Ref And I made answer and said to him, What are these two olive-trees on the right side of the light-support and on the left?

12 Ref And answering a second time, I said to him, What are these two olive branches, through whose gold pipes the oil is drained out?

13 Ref And he said in answer to me, Have you no knowledge what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

14 Ref And he said, These are the two sons of oil, whose place is by the Lord of all the earth.
