John 15

American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)

1 Ref I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Ref Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every `branch' that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit.

3 Ref Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Ref Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 Ref I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing.

6 Ref If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 Ref If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Ref Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and `so' shall ye be my disciples.

9 Ref Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love.

10 Ref If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 Ref These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and `that' your joy may be made full.

12 Ref This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.

13 Ref Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ref Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you.

15 Ref No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known unto you.

16 Ref Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and `that' your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 Ref These things I command you, that ye may love one another.

18 Ref If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before `it hated' you.

19 Ref If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Ref Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

21 Ref But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

22 Ref If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin.

23 Ref He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 Ref If I had not done among them the works which none other did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25 Ref But `this cometh to pass', that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26 Ref But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, `even' the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:

27 Ref and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref `I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman;

2 Ref every branch in me not bearing fruit, He doth take it away, and every one bearing fruit, He doth cleanse by pruning it, that it may bear more fruit;

3 Ref already ye are clean, because of the word that I have spoken to you;

4 Ref remain in me, and I in you, as the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, if it may not remain in the vine, so neither ye, if ye may not remain in me.

5 Ref `I am the vine, ye the branches; he who is remaining in me, and I in him, this one doth bear much fruit, because apart from me ye are not able to do anything;

6 Ref if any one may not remain in me, he was cast forth without as the branch, and was withered, and they gather them, and cast to fire, and they are burned;

7 Ref if ye may remain in me, and my sayings in you may remain, whatever ye may wish ye shall ask, and it shall be done to you.

8 Ref `In this was my Father glorified, that ye may bear much fruit, and ye shall become my disciples.

9 Ref According as the Father did love me, I also loved you, remain in my love;

10 Ref if my commandments ye may keep, ye shall remain in my love, according as I the commands of my Father have kept, and do remain in His love;

11 Ref these things I have spoken to you, that my joy in you may remain, and your joy may be full.

12 Ref `This is my command, that ye love one another, according as I did love you;

13 Ref greater love than this hath no one, that any one his life may lay down for his friends;

14 Ref ye are my friends, if ye may do whatever I command you;

15 Ref no more do I call you servants, because the servant hath not known what his lord doth, and you I have called friends, because all things that I heard from my Father, I did make known to you.

16 Ref `Ye did not choose out me, but I chose out you, and did appoint you, that ye might go away, and might bear fruit, and your fruit might remain, that whatever ye may ask of the Father in my name, He may give you.

17 Ref `These things I command you, that ye love one another;

18 Ref if the world doth hate you, ye know that it hath hated me before you;

19 Ref if of the world ye were, the world its own would have been loving, and because of the world ye are not -- but I chose out of the world -- because of this the world hateth you.

20 Ref `Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord; if me they did persecute, you also they will persecute; if my word they did keep, yours also they will keep;

21 Ref but all these things will they do to you, because of my name, because they have not known Him who sent me;

22 Ref if I had not come and spoken to them, they were not having sin; but now pretext they have not for their sin.

23 Ref `He who is hating me, doth hate also my Father;

24 Ref if I did not do among them the works that no other hath done, they were not having sin, and now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father;

25 Ref but -- that the word may be fulfilled that was written in their law -- They hated me without a cause.

26 Ref `And when the Comforter may come, whom I will send to you from the Father -- the Spirit of truth, who from the Father doth come forth, he will testify of me;

27 Ref and ye also do testify, because from the beginning ye are with me.

3 Ref You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

4 Ref Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can't bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

5 Ref I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

6 Ref If a man doesn't remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 Ref If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.

8 Ref "In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.
