Ephesians 2
American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)
1 Ref And you `did he make alive,' when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins,
2 Ref wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;
3 Ref among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:--
4 Ref but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Ref even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),
6 Ref and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly `places', in Christ Jesus:
7 Ref that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus:
8 Ref for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, `it is' the gift of God;
9 Ref not of works, that no man should glory.
10 Ref For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.
11 Ref Wherefore remember, that once ye, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called Circumcision, in the flesh, made by hands;
12 Ref that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 Ref But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ.
14 Ref For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition,
15 Ref having abolished in the flesh the enmity, `even' the law of commandments `contained' in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the two one new man, `so' making peace;
16 Ref and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 Ref and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh:
18 Ref for through him we both have our access in one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Ref So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but ye are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,
20 Ref being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner stone;
21 Ref in whom each several building, fitly framed together, groweth into a holy temple in the Lord;
22 Ref in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Ref Also you -- being dead in the trespasses and the sins,
2 Ref in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,
3 Ref among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath -- as also the others,
4 Ref and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 Ref even being dead in the trespasses, did make us to live together with the Christ, (by grace ye are having been saved,)
6 Ref and did raise `us' up together, and did seat `us' together in the heavenly `places' in Christ Jesus,
7 Ref that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus,
8 Ref for by grace ye are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you -- of God the gift,
9 Ref not of works, that no one may boast;
10 Ref for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.
11 Ref Wherefore, remember, that ye `were' once the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands,
12 Ref that ye were at that time apart from Christ, having been alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope, and without God, in the world;
13 Ref and now, in Christ Jesus, ye being once afar off became nigh in the blood of the Christ,
14 Ref for he is our peace, who did make both one, and the middle wall of the enclosure did break down,
15 Ref the enmity in his flesh, the law of the commands in ordinances having done away, that the two he might create in himself into one new man, making peace,
16 Ref and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having slain the enmity in it,
17 Ref and having come, he did proclaim good news -- peace to you -- the far-off and the nigh,
18 Ref because through him we have the access -- we both -- in one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Ref Then, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God,
20 Ref being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being chief corner-`stone',
21 Ref in whom all the building fitly framed together doth increase to an holy sanctuary in the Lord,
22 Ref in whom also ye are builded together, for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
