²¹ Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath returned me evil for good.

¹³ Whoso rewardeth evil for good, Evil shall not depart from his house.

¹⁷ For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; for hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted `for it', ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer `for it', ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

²¹ For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:

²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed `himself' to him that judgeth righteously:

¹⁵ See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:

²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

²¹ Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

³ They have compassed me about also with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: But I `give myself unto' prayer.

⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

²⁰ They also that render evil for good Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good.

⁸ Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: Fret not thyself, `it tendeth' only to evil-doing.

¹² They reward me evil for good, `To' the bereaving of my soul.

⁸ `They are' children of fools, yea, children of base men; They were scourged out of the land.

¹³ And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the baggage.

⁴ `And' when they were gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
