¹⁷ And Jehovah hath done unto thee, as he spake by me: and Jehovah hath rent the kingdom out of thy hand, and given it to thy neighbor, even to David.

²⁷ And as Samuel turned about to go away, `Saul' laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it rent.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou.

²⁹ And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

¹⁴ But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.

¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

²⁰ And now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thy hand.

⁴ Jehovah hath made everything for its own end; Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
