⁴ Moreover he built cities in the hill-country of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

¹² Now therefore give me this hill-country, whereof Jehovah spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that Jehovah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Jehovah spake.

¹³ And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

⁵ And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

⁶ He built Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁷ And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

⁸ and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁹ and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

¹⁰ and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

⁷ For he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

⁹ Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning `of the wall', and fortified them.

¹⁰ And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plain: `and he had' husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved husbandry.

³⁹ And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;
