¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.

¹ O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance; Thy holy temple have they defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

⁶ As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

¹² Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

¹ How is the gold become dim! `how' is the most pure gold changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

⁵ They seemed as men that lifted up Axes upon a thicket of trees.

⁶ And now all the carved work thereof They break down with hatchet and hammers.

⁷ They have set thy sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling-place of thy name `by casting it' to the ground.

⁸ They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether: They have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
