⁷ So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maacah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.

³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, `Ye are' our gods; for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

¹⁷ Our eyes do yet fail `in looking' for our vain help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

⁵ Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah.

³ Put not your trust in princes, Nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

⁴ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.

⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in Jehovah his God:

²⁰ And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

¹⁶ At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

²⁶ And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river of Gozan, unto this day.

³² So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and `put' ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

³³ Now the men observed diligently, and hasted to catch whether it were his mind; and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

⁴ And the king of Israel answered and said, It is according to thy saying, my lord, O king; I am thine, and all that I have.
