⁴ For to him that is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

⁷ For there is hope of a tree, If it be cut down, that it will sprout again, And that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

⁸ Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, And the stock thereof die in the ground;

⁹ Yet through the scent of water it will bud, And put forth boughs like a plant.

¹⁰ But man dieth, and is laid low: Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

¹¹ `As' the waters fail from the sea, And the river wasteth and drieth up;

¹² So man lieth down and riseth not: Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep.

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, though he get him gain, When God taketh away his soul?

¹⁸ For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

²¹ This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

²² `It is of' Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us.

²⁷ And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house;

²⁸ for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

²⁹ But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
