²² Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away; but they shall take virgins of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that is the widow of a priest.

⁷ They shall not take a woman that is a harlot, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.

¹³ And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

¹⁴ A widow, or one divorced, or a profane woman, a harlot, these shall he not take: but a virgin of his own people shall he take to wife.

¹ When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, then it shall be, if she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

² And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's `wife'.

³ And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, who took her to be his wife;

⁴ her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before Jehovah: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

² The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

⁴ one that ruleth well his own house, having `his' children in subjection with all gravity;

⁵ (but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

¹¹ Women in like manner `must be' grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹² Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling `their' children and their own houses well.

⁶ if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children that believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly.
