¹³ Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister; that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee.

⁷ And the men of the place asked him of his wife. And he said, She is my sister. For he feared to say, My wife. Lest, `said he', the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah. Because she was fair to look upon.

² And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

⁵ Said he not himself unto me, She is my sister? And she, even she herself said, He is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and the innocency of my hands have I done this.

¹² And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife:

⁶ God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

⁷ But if the truth of God through my lie abounded unto his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?

⁸ and why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? whose condemnation is just.

⁴⁴ Ye are of `your' father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean.

⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another `maid' saw him, and saith unto them that were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.

⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man.

⁷³ And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art `one' of them; for thy speech maketh thee known.

⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightway the cock crew.

⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

⁵ Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah.

⁶ For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in Jehovah, and whose trust Jehovah is.

⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat cometh, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹¹ And of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou liest, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of long time, and thou fearest me not?

³ Put not your trust in princes, Nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

⁴ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.

⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in Jehovah his God:

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took them wives: The name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
