⁶ So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Beth-el), he and all the people that were with him.

¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Beth-el. But the name of the city was Luz at the first.

⁸ And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto Jehovah, and called upon the name of Jehovah.

²² then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

³ And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

²² And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el; and Jehovah was with them.

²³ And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)

²⁴ And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.

²⁵ And he showed them the entrance into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.

²⁶ And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof unto this day.
