⁵ Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; `yea', let him make peace with me.

⁴ For thou hast been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

²¹ Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: Thereby good shall come unto thee.

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:

²⁰ and through him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, `I say', whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens.

²¹ And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works,

¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh:

¹⁹ to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

²⁰ We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech `you' on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.

²¹ Him who knew no sin he made `to be' sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

¹ Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;

² through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

³ And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;

⁴ and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope:

⁵ and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.

⁶ For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.

⁷ For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die.

⁸ But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

⁹ Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath `of God' through him.

¹⁰ For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life;

⁴² saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen `gathereth' her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!

¹⁸ And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the land, and will make them to lie down safely.

¹⁹ And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.

²⁰ I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness; and thou shalt know Jehovah.

²⁵ And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell securely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.

²⁶ And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of blessing.

⁷ And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.

² Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that holdeth it fast; that keepeth the sabbath from profaning it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

²⁴ Only in Jehovah, it is said of me, is righteousness and strength; even to him shall men come; and all they that were incensed against him shall be put to shame.

³ Thou wilt keep `him' in perfect peace, `whose' mind `is' stayed `on thee'; because he trusteth in thee.

⁴ Trust ye in Jehovah for ever; for in Jehovah, `even' Jehovah, is an everlasting rock.

⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

²⁵ And now, behold, we are in thy hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.
