²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

⁴⁰ And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was at the first baptizing; and there be abode.

²³ And John also was baptizing in Enon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

²⁴ And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters, as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan.

²⁶ And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
