³ For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, And the flood was round about me; All thy waves and thy billows passed over me.

⁷ Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls: All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

¹ Save me, O God; For the waters are come in unto my soul.

² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

¹⁵ Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep shallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

⁵ Cast off among the dead, Like the slain that lie in the grave, Whom thou rememberest no more, And they are cut off from thy hand.

⁶ Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in the deeps.

⁷ Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah

⁸ Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

¹² And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

¹³ Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not: for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.

¹⁴ Wherefore they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We beseech thee, O Jehovah, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood; for thou, O Jehovah, hast done as it pleased thee.

¹⁵ So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea; and the sea ceased from its raging.

¹⁶ Then the men feared Jehovah exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice unto Jehovah, and made vows.
