¹¹ Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water, There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah, `Even' the righteous acts of his rule in Israel. Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.

⁵ O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him; `remember' from Shittim unto Gilgal, that ye may know the righteous acts of Jehovah.

⁷ Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers.

⁹ We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness.

⁴ We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold unto us.

² Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah.

⁶ and a spirit of justice to him that sitteth in judgment, and strength to them that turn back the battle at the gate.

³ Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

⁷ They shall utter the memory of thy great goodness, And shall sing of thy righteousness.

⁷ When I went forth to the gate unto the city, When I prepared my seat in the street,

⁸ They chose new gods; Then was war in the gates: Was there a shield or spear seen Among forty thousand in Israel?

²⁴ then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them to death with stones; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbor's wife: so thou shalt put away the evil from the midst of thee.

¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

¹⁸ And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to-day?

¹⁹ And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.

²⁰ And the herdsmen of Gerar strove with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, The water is ours. And he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

²¹ And they digged another well, and they strove for that also. And he called the name of it Sitnah.

²² And he removed from thence, and digged another well. And for that they strove not. And he called the name of it Rehoboth. And he said, For now Jehovah hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
