³ After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their statutes.

⁷ And I said unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am Jehovah your God.

⁸ But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me; they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

²³ And ye shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

²⁴ Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works; but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and break in pieces their pillars.

⁸ Neither hath she left her whoredoms since `the days of' Egypt; for in her youth they lay with her, and they handled the bosom of her virginity; and they poured out their whoredom upon her.

³⁰ take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

³¹ Thou shalt not do so unto Jehovah thy God: for every abomination to Jehovah, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

² that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:

⁴ wherein they think strange that ye run not with `them' into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of `of':

⁷ Be not ye therefore partakers with them;

⁸ For ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light

⁹ (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

¹⁰ proving what is well-pleasing unto the Lord;

¹¹ and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them;

² And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

² thus saith Jehovah, Learn not the way of the nations, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the nations are dismayed at them.

³ For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.

³⁵ But mingled themselves with the nations, And learned their works,

⁴ Ye shall not do so unto Jehovah your God.

²⁴ Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out from before you;

²⁵ And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land vomiteth out her inhabitants.

²⁶ Ye therefore shall keep my statutes and mine ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the home-born, nor the stranger that sojourneth among you;

²⁷ (for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land is defiled);

²⁸ that the land vomit not you out also, when ye defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

²⁹ For whosoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people.

³⁰ Therefore shall ye keep my charge, that ye practise not any of these abominable customs, which were practised before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am Jehovah your God.
