²⁰ and your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.

¹ Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.

⁴ But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely the justice `due' to me is with Jehovah, and my recompense with my God.

¹⁷ and the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he shut up the heavens, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and ye perish quickly from off the good land which Jehovah giveth you.

⁴ then I will give your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

¹¹ I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

¹⁶ Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty `measures', there were but ten; when one came to the winevat to draw out fifty `vessels', there were but twenty.

⁹ Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house.

¹⁰ Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

¹¹ And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.

¹³ Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

¹¹ In the day of thy planting thou hedgest it in, and in the morning thou makest thy seed to blossom; but the harvest fleeth away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

³⁴ A fruitful land into a salt desert, For the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, And cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

⁴² All thy trees and the fruit of thy ground shall the locust possess.

³⁸ Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather little in; for the locust shall consume it.

³⁹ Thou shalt plant vineyards and dress them, but thou shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather `the grapes'; for the worm shall eat them.

⁴⁰ Thou shalt have olive-trees throughout all thy borders, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast `its fruit'.

¹⁸ Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock.
