²⁴ And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer.

⁸ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.

⁹ Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats. And I will make them savory food for thy father, such as he loveth.

¹⁰ And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, so that he may bless thee before his death.

¹¹ And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

⁸ And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.

² and say, What was thy mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her whelps.

³ And she brought up one of her whelps: he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.

³ A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; But a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.

⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; But who is able to stand before jealousy?

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay such as are upright in the way.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the just, And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

² When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh, `Even' mine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

³¹ If the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one that hath not been filled with his meat?

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

⁴ And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did the house of Ahab; for they were his counsellors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

¹² And when it was day, the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

¹³ And they were more than forty that made this conspiracy.
