¹ And the princes of the people dwelt in Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts in the `other' cities.

² (for they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; Jehovah of hosts is his name):

¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four.

¹ Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

³⁴ And we cast lots, the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood-offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to our fathers' houses, at times appointed, year by year, to burn upon the altar of Jehovah our God, as it is written in the law;

⁵³ and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.

⁵ Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple,

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,

³³ The lot is cast into the lap; But the whole disposing thereof is of Jehovah.

⁵ For there are set thrones for judgment, The thrones of the house of David.

⁴ Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.

⁵ And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of them that came up at the first, and I found written therein:

¹³ And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to their fathers' houses, for every gate.

⁹ But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: `we will go up' against it by lot;

¹⁰ and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates; then shalt thou arise, and get thee up unto the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose;

⁹ and thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days: and thou shalt inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment.
