¹¹ If they say, Come with us, Let us lay wait for blood; Let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;

¹⁸ And these lay wait for their own blood; They lurk privily for their own lives.

²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men: they watch, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.

⁶ The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

³ asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; laying a plot to kill him on the way.

¹⁵ Now therefore do ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you, as though ye would judge of his case more exactly: and we, before he comes near, are ready to slay him.

²⁵ But `this cometh to pass', that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas;

⁴ and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

² The godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

¹⁸ Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

¹⁹ Give heed to me, O Jehovah, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, `saying', Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁴ There is a generation whose teeth are `as' swords, and their jaw teeth `as' knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil purpose; They commune of laying snares privily; They say, Who will see them?

⁶ They search out iniquities; We have accomplished, `say they', a diligent search: And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.

⁶ They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, They mark my steps, Even as they have waited for my soul.

⁷ For without cause have they hid for me their net `in' a pit; Without cause have they digged `a pit' for my soul.

¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

⁸ He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; In the secret places doth he murder the innocent; His eyes are privily set against the helpless.

⁹ He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert; He lieth in wait to catch the poor: He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.

¹⁰ He croucheth, he boweth down, And the helpless fall by his strong ones.
