⁴ He becometh poor that worketh with a slack hand; But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

⁵ The thoughts of the diligent `tend' only to plenteousness; But every one that is hasty `hasteth' only to want.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.

¹³ Love not sleep, let thou come to poverty; Open thine eyes, `and' thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

²⁴ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

²⁴ There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; And there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but `it tendeth' only to want.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise:

⁷ Which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler,

⁸ Provideth her bread in the summer, And gathereth her food in the harvest.

⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

¹⁰ `Yet' a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.

⁵ Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in `your' virtue knowledge;

⁶ and in `your' knowledge self-control; and in `your' self-control patience; and in `your' patience godliness;

⁷ and in `your' godliness brotherly kindness; and in `your' brotherly kindness love.

⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

¹⁰ Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

¹¹ And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of hope even to the end:

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁵⁸ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed.

¹⁸ By slothfulness the roof sinketh in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, And by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, The face thereof was covered with nettles, And the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³² Then I beheld, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction:
