¹² He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

²¹ He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed `himself' to him that judgeth righteously:

⁴⁸ Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁹ But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.

⁵⁰ Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him before, being one of them),

⁵¹ Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?

⁵² They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

⁹ And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:

¹⁴ And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; But he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.

³ Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

² And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?

³ Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they are building, if a fox go up, he shall break down their stone wall.

⁴ Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn back their reproach upon their own head, and give them up for a spoil in a land of captivity;

³⁶ But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

²⁷ But certain worthless fellows said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

³⁸ Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, that thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out now, I pray, and fight with them.

²⁷ And they went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod `the grapes', and held festival, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

²⁸ And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve ye the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: but why should we serve him?

²⁹ And would that this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
