¹⁶ Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, Lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey: So `for men' to search out their own glory is grievous.

⁸ And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.

⁹ And he took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave unto them, and they did eat: but he told them not that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

²⁵ And all the people came into the forest; and there was honey upon the ground.

²⁶ And when the people were come unto the forest, behold, the honey dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.

²⁷ But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.

⁸ The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words.

¹³ My son, eat thou honey, for it is good; And the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to thy taste:

¹⁴ So shalt thou know wisdom to be unto thy soul; If thou hast found it, then shall there be a reward, And thy hope shall not be cut off.

¹⁵ Butter and honey shall he eat, when he knoweth to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

²² and it shall come to pass, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the midst of the land.

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:

¹⁸ And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;
