⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mingled my drink with weeping,

³ My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

⁵ Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in large measure.

²⁴ For my sighing cometh before I eat, And my groanings are poured out like water.

²¹ They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

²⁰ He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

¹⁵ He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

¹⁶ He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

⁴⁸ Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

⁴⁹ Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

¹⁰ Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all: at Beth-le-aphrah have I rolled myself in the dust.

¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear unto Jehovah our God, and shall be afraid because of thee.
