⁷ Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong: Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.

²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; Thou takest away their breath, they die, And return to their dust.

⁷ Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth: Hide not thy face from me, Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.

¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?

¹⁷ Behold, `it was' for `my' peace `that' I had great bitterness: But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

¹⁰ Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.

¹⁷ For thou art the glory of their strength; And in thy favor our horn shall be exalted.

³ For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them.

² He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

⁵ For his anger is but for a moment; His favor is for a life-time: Weeping may tarry for the night, But joy `cometh' in the morning.

³⁵ Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation; And thy right hand hath holden me up, And thy gentleness hath made me great.

³⁶ Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.

¹ How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

¹ Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah? Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

²⁶ When I looked for good, then evil came; And when I waited for light, there came darkness.

²⁷ My heart is troubled, and resteth not; Days of affliction are come upon me.

²⁸ I go mourning without the sun: I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.

²⁹ I am a brother to jackals, And a companion to ostriches.

³⁰ My skin is black, `and falleth' from me, And my bones are burned with heat.

³¹ Therefore is my harp `turned' to mourning, And my pipe into the voice of them that weep.

¹² Thou hast granted me life and lovingkindness; And thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

²⁶ And now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

²⁷ and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.
