¹⁵ But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew `it' not; They did tear me, and ceased not:

² Lest they tear my soul like a lion, Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

⁵ Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; `And' he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, And let not thy heart be glad when he is overthrown;

¹⁸ Lest Jehovah see it, and it displease him, And he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, `say' all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered unto him the whole band.

²⁸ And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

²⁹ And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

³⁰ And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.

³⁹ And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,

⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴¹ In like manner also the chief priests mocking `him', with the scribes and elders, said,

⁴² He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.

⁴³ He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴⁴ And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

⁵ But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people.

⁶ rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;

¹⁰ For mine enemies speak concerning me; And they that watch for my soul take counsel together,

¹¹ Saying, God hath forsaken him: Pursue and take him; for there is none to deliver.

¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me; And `I am' the song of the drunkards.

¹ But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, Whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.

² Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me? Men in whom ripe age is perished.

³ They are gaunt with want and famine; They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.

⁴ They pluck salt-wort by the bushes; And the roots of the broom are their food.

⁵ They are driven forth from the midst `of men'; They cry after them as after a thief;

⁶ So that they dwell in frightful valleys, In holes of the earth and of the rocks.

⁷ Among the bushes they bray; Under the nettles they are gathered together.

⁸ `They are' children of fools, yea, children of base men; They were scourged out of the land.

⁹ And now I am become their song, Yea, I am a byword unto them.

¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face.

¹¹ For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me; And they have cast off the bridle before me.

¹² Upon my right hand rise the rabble; They thrust aside my feet, And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, Or lifted up myself when evil found him;

¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil-doers have inclosed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.

⁸ Let destruction come upon him unawares; And let his net that he hath hid catch himself: With destruction let him fall therein.

²⁵ Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it: Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt: Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me.

⁸ An evil disease, `say they', cleaveth fast unto him; And now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among them that are set on fire, Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword.

⁹ He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
