⁷ But God will shoot at them; With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.

¹² If a man turn not, he will whet his sword; He hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

¹³ He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; He maketh his arrows fiery `shafts'.

² For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

³ When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

⁵⁰ the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not,

⁵¹ and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

⁴⁰ Then shall two man be in the field; one is taken, and one is left:

¹² He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

¹³ He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

¹³ therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant.

¹ He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; On a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.

¹⁹ How are they become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

⁴ That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect: Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

¹⁴ And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

³ And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

⁴ Then said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

⁵ And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

⁷ And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

³⁴ And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the armor: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.

⁴² I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

²³ I will heap evils upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them:
