¹⁹ In the multitude of my thoughts within me Thy comforts delight my soul.

¹⁶ I heard, and my body trembled, My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entereth into my bones, and I tremble in my place; Because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, For the coming up of the people that invadeth us.

¹⁷ For though the fig-tree shall not flourish, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labor of the olive shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls:

¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: My hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; My soul refused to be comforted.

³ I remember God, and am disquieted: I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah

⁴ Thou holdest mine eyes watching: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

⁵ I have considered the days of old, The years of ancient times.

⁶ I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart; And my spirit maketh diligent search.

⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? And will he be favorable no more?

⁸ Is his lovingkindness clean gone for ever? Doth his promise fail for evermore?

⁹ Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah

¹⁰ And I said, This is my infirmity; `But I will remember' the years of the right hand of the Most High.

² From the end of the earth will I call unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

⁷ that the proof of your faith, `being' more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:

⁸ whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

⁴ who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

⁵ For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

² through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

³ And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;

⁴ and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope:

⁵ and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.

⁷ O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.

⁸ For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

⁹ And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot `contain'.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, `say' all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

¹¹ But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one `and' a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

¹² Behold, these are the wicked; And, being alway at ease, they increase in riches.

¹³ Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency;

¹⁴ For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning.

¹⁵ If I had said, I will speak thus; Behold, I had dealt treacherously with the generation of thy children.

¹⁶ When I thought how I might know this, It was too painful for me;

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;

⁶ When I remember thee upon my bed, `And' meditate on thee in the night-watches.

² For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou cast me off? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

³ Oh send out thy light and thy truth; let them lead me: Let them bring me unto thy holy hill, And to thy tabernacles.

⁴ Then will I go unto the altar of God, Unto God my exceeding joy; And upon the harp will I praise thee, O God, my God.
