⁸ Harden not your heart, as at Meribah, As in the day of Massah in the wilderness;

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?

¹⁶ Ye shall not tempt Jehovah your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

¹³ These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Jehovah, and he was sanctified in them.

⁶ Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

² Wherefore the people stove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?

⁵ Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned `them' on earth, much more `shall not' we `escape' who turn away from him that `warneth' from heaven:

¹⁵ while it is said, To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

¹⁶ For who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?

¹⁷ And with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?

¹⁹ And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

¹³ but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin:

⁸ Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,

⁹ Where your fathers tried `me' by proving `me,' And saw my works forty years.

⁵ but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

³⁴ And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,

³⁵ Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see the good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,

²⁷ How long `shall I bear' with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

²² because all those men that have seen my glory, and my signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

¹¹ And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?

¹⁵ But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them, as Jehovah had spoken.

⁹ But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
