1 Corinthians 5

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref It is said, in fact, that there is among you a sin of the flesh, such as is not seen even among the Gentiles, that one of you has his father's wife.

2 Ref And in place of feeling sorrow, you are pleased with yourselves, so that he who has done this thing has not been sent away from among you.

3 Ref For I myself, being present in spirit though not in body, have come to a decision about him who has done this thing;

4 Ref In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you have come together with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,

5 Ref That this man is to be handed over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may have forgiveness in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Ref This pride of yours is not good. Do you not see that a little leaven makes a change in all the mass?

7 Ref Take away, then, the old leaven, so that you may be a new mass, even as you are without leaven. For Christ has been put to death as our Passover.

8 Ref Let us then keep the feast, not with old leaven, and not with the leaven of evil thoughts and acts, but with the unleavened bread of true thoughts and right feelings.

9 Ref In my letter I said to you that you were not to keep company with those who go after the desires of the flesh;

10 Ref But I had not in mind the sinners who are outside the church, or those who have a desire for and take the property of others, or those who give worship to images; for it is not possible to keep away from such people without going out of the world completely:

11 Ref But the sense of my letter was that if a brother had the name of being one who went after the desires of the flesh, or had the desire for other people's property, or was in the way of using violent language, or being the worse for drink, or took by force what was not his, you might not keep company with such a one, or take food with him.

12 Ref For it is no business of mine to be judging those who are outside; but it is yours to be judging those who are among you;

13 Ref As for those who are outside, God is their judge. So put away the evil man from among you.

1 Ref It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles, that one has his father's wife.

2 Ref You are puffed up, and didn't rather mourn, that he who had done this deed might be removed from among you.

3 Ref For I most assuredly, as being absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as though I were present, judged him who has done this thing.

4 Ref In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, you being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 Ref are to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Ref Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?

7 Ref Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.

8 Ref Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old yeast, neither with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9 Ref I wrote to you in my letter to have no company with sexual sinners;

10 Ref yet not at all meaning with the sexual sinners of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then you would have to leave the world.

11 Ref But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate with anyone who is called a brother who is a sexual sinner, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner. Don't even eat with such a person.

12 Ref For what have I to do with also judging those who are outside? Don't you judge those who are within?

13 Ref But those who are outside, God judges. "Put away the wicked man from among yourselves."
