^{1 Ref} Abram went up out of Egypt: he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.

^{2 Ref} Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

^{3 Ref} He went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

^{4 Ref} to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on the name of Yahweh.

^{5 Ref} Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

^{6 Ref} The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together: for their substance was great, so that they could not live together.

^{7 Ref} There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived then in the land.

^{8 Ref} Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives.

^{9 Ref} Isn't the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left."

^{10 Ref} Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

^{11 Ref} So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.

^{12 Ref} Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

^{13 Ref} Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh.

^{14 Ref} Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,

^{15 Ref} for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

^{16 Ref} I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered.

^{17 Ref} Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it to you."

^{18 Ref} Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.

^{10 Ref} And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.

^{11 Ref} So Lot chose him all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

^{12 Ref} Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

^{13 Ref} Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly.

^{14 Ref} And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward:

^{15 Ref} for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

^{16 Ref} And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: So that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.

^{17 Ref} Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.

^{18 Ref} And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto Jehovah.

^{3 Ref} And travelling on from the South, he came to Beth-el, to the place where his tent had been before, between Beth-el and Ai;

^{4 Ref} To the place where he had made his first altar, and there Abram gave worship to the name of the Lord.

^{5 Ref} And Lot, who went with him, had flocks and herds and tents;

^{6 Ref} So that the land was not wide enough for the two of them: their property was so great that there was not room for them together.

^{7 Ref} And there was an argument between the keepers of Abram's cattle and the keepers of Lot's cattle: at that time the Canaanites and Perizzites were still living in the land.

^{8 Ref} Then Abram said to Lot, Let there be no argument between me and you, and between my herdmen and your herdmen, for we are brothers.

^{9 Ref} Is not all the land before you? then let us go our separate ways: if you go to the left, I will go to the right; or if you take the right, I will go to the left.

^{10 Ref} And Lot, lifting up his eyes and looking an the valley of Jordan, saw that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord had sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah; it was like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, on the way to Zoar.

^{11 Ref} So Lot took for himself all the valley of Jordan, and went to the east, and they were parted from one another.

^{12 Ref} Abram went on living in the land of Canaan, and Lot went to the lowland towns, moving his tent as far as Sodom.

^{13 Ref} Now the men of Sodom were evil, and great sinners before the Lord.

^{14 Ref} And the Lord had said to Abram, after Lot was parted from him, From this place where you are take a look to the north and to the south, to the east and to the west:

^{15 Ref} For all the land which you see I will give to you and to your seed for ever.

^{16 Ref} And I will make your children like the dust of the earth, so that if the dust of the earth may be numbered, then will your children be numbered.

^{17 Ref} Come, go through all the land from one end to the other for I will give it to you.

^{18 Ref} And Abram, moving his tent, came and made his living-place by the holy tree of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and made an altar there to the Lord.
