1 Ref Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 Ref When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.
3 Ref The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
4 Ref But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"
5 Ref Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 Ref and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will give his angels charge concerning you.' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, So that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"
7 Ref Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'"
8 Ref Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.
9 Ref He said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me."
10 Ref Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind me,{TR and NU read "Go away" instead of "Get behind me"} Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'"
11 Ref Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
12 Ref Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.
13 Ref Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 Ref that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
15 Ref "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16 Ref The people who sat in darkness saw a great light, To those who sat in the region and shadow of death, To them light has dawned."
17 Ref From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
18 Ref Walking by the sea of Galilee, he{TR reads "Jesus" instead of "he"} saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
19 Ref He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men."
20 Ref They immediately left their nets and followed him.
21 Ref Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them.
22 Ref They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
23 Ref Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24 Ref The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.
25 Ref Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

1 Ref Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil,

3 Ref And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God -- speak that these stones may become loaves.'
4 Ref But he answering said, `It hath been written, Not upon bread alone doth man live, but upon every word coming forth from the mouth of God.'
5 Ref Then doth the Devil take him to the `holy' city, and doth set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 Ref and saith to him, `If Son thou art of God -- cast thyself down, for it hath been written, that, His messengers He shall charge concerning thee, and on hands they shall bear thee up, that thou mayest not dash on a stone thy foot.'
7 Ref Jesus said to him again, `It hath been written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'
8 Ref Again doth the Devil take him to a very high mount, and doth shew to him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them,
9 Ref and saith to him, `All these to thee I will give, if falling down thou mayest bow to me.'
10 Ref Then saith Jesus to him, `Go -- Adversary, for it hath been written, The Lord thy God thou shalt bow to, and Him only thou shalt serve.'
11 Ref Then doth the Devil leave him, and lo, messengers came and were ministering to him.
12 Ref And Jesus having heard that John was delivered up, did withdraw to Galilee,
13 Ref and having left Nazareth, having come, he dwelt at Capernaum that is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtalim,
14 Ref that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
15 Ref `Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations! --
16 Ref the people that is sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to those sitting in a region and shadow of death -- light arose to them.'
17 Ref From that time began Jesus to proclaim and to say, `Reform ye, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens.'
18 Ref And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea -- for they were fishers --
19 Ref and he saith to them, `Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men,'
20 Ref and they, immediately, having left the nets, did follow him.
21 Ref And having advanced thence, he saw other two brothers, James of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, refitting their nets, and he called them,
22 Ref and they, immediately, having left the boat and their father, did follow him.
23 Ref And Jesus was going about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the reign, and healing every disease, and every malady among the people,
24 Ref and his fame went forth to all Syria, and they brought to him all having ailments, pressed with manifold sicknesses and pains, and demoniacs, and lunatics, and paralytics, and he healed them.
25 Ref And there followed him many multitudes from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
