Isaiah 27

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref In that day lay a charge doth Jehovah, With his sword -- the sharp, and the great, and the strong, On leviathan -- a fleeing serpent, And on leviathan -- a crooked serpent, And He hath slain the dragon that `is' in the sea.

2 Ref In that day, `A desirable vineyard,' respond ye to her,

3 Ref I, Jehovah, am its keeper, every moment I water it, Lest any lay a charge against it, Night and day I keep it!

4 Ref Fury is not in Me; Who giveth Me a brier -- a thorn in battle? I step into it, I burn it at once.

5 Ref Or -- he doth take hold on My strength, He doth make peace with Me, Peace he doth make with Me.

6 Ref Those coming in He causeth to take root, Jacob doth blossom, and flourished hath Israel, And they have filled the face of the world `with' increase.

7 Ref As the smiting of his smiter hath He smitten him? As the slaying of his slain doth He slay?

8 Ref In measure, in sending it forth, thou strivest with it, He hath taken away by His sharp wind, In the day of an east wind,

9 Ref Therefore by this is the iniquity of Jacob covered, And this `is' all the fruit -- To take away his sin, in His setting all the stones of an altar, As chalkstones beaten in pieces, They rise not -- shrines and images.

10 Ref For the fenced city `is' alone, A habitation cast out and forsaken as a wilderness, There doth the calf delight, And there it lieth down, And hath consumed its branches.

11 Ref In the withering of its branch it is broken off, Women are coming in setting it on fire, For it `is' not a people of understanding, Therefore pity it not doth its Maker, And its Former doth not favour it.

12 Ref And it hath come to pass, in that day, Beat out doth Jehovah from the branch of the river, Unto the stream of Egypt, And ye are gathered one by one, O sons of Israel.

13 Ref And it hath come to pass, in that day, It is blown with a great trumpet, And come in have those perishing in the land of Asshur, And those cast out in the land of Egypt, And have bowed themselves to Jehovah, In the holy mount -- in Jerusalem!

American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)

1 Ref In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.

2 Ref In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it.

3 Ref I Jehovah am its keeper; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

4 Ref Wrath is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together.

5 Ref Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; `yea', let him make peace with me.

6 Ref In days to come shall Jacob take root; Israel shall blossom and bud; and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit.

7 Ref Hath he smitten them as he smote those that smote them? or are they slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by them?

8 Ref In measure, when thou sendest them away, thou dost content with them; he hath removed `them' with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.

9 Ref Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, `so that' the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.

10 Ref For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.

11 Ref When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire; for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have compassion upon them, and he that formed them will show them no favor.

12 Ref And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will beat off `his fruit' from the flood of the River unto the brook of Egypt; and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.

13 Ref And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come that were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref In that day the Lord, with his great and strong and cruel sword, will send punishment on Leviathan, the quick-moving snake, and on Leviathan, the twisted snake; and he will put to death the dragon which is in the sea.

2 Ref In that day it will be said, A vine-garden of delight, make a song about it.

3 Ref I, the Lord, am watching it; I will give it water at all times: I will keep it night and day, for fear that any damage comes to it.

4 Ref My passion is over: if the thorns were fighting against me, I would make an attack on them, and they would be burned up together.

5 Ref Or let him put himself under my power, and make peace with me.

6 Ref In days to come Jacob will take root: Israel will put out buds and flowers; and the face of the world will be full of fruit.

7 Ref Is his punishment like the punishment of those who overcame him? or are his dead as great in number as those he put to the sword?

8 Ref Your anger against her has been made clear by driving her away; he has taken her away with his storm-wind in the day of his east wind.

9 Ref So by this will the sin of Jacob be covered, and this is all the fruit of taking away his punishment; when all the stones of the altar are crushed together, so that the wood pillars and the sun-images will not be put up again.

10 Ref For the strong town is without men, an unpeopled living-place; and she has become a waste land: there the young ox will take his rest, and its branches will be food for him.

11 Ref When its branches are dry they will be broken off; the women will come and put fire to them: for it is a foolish people; for this cause he who made them will have no mercy on them, and he whose work they are will not have pity on them.

12 Ref And it will be in that day that the Lord will get together his grain, from the River to the stream of Egypt, and you will be got together with care, O children of Israel.

13 Ref And it will be in that day that a great horn will be sounded; and those who were wandering in the land of Assyria, and those who had been sent away into the land of Egypt, will come; and they will give worship to the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
