1 Chronicles 13

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref And David consulteth with the heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, every leader,

2 Ref and David saith to all the assembly of Israel, `If unto you it be good, and from Jehovah our God it hath broken forth -- we send unto our brethren, those left in all the lands of Israel, and with them the priests and the Levites, in the cities of their suburbs, and they are gathered unto us,

3 Ref and we bring round the ark of our God unto us, for we sought Him not in the days of Saul.'

4 Ref And all the assembly say to do so, for the thing is right in the eyes of all the people.

5 Ref And David assembleth all Israel from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering in of Hamath, to bring in the ark of God from Kirjath-Jearim,

6 Ref and David goeth up, and all Israel, to Baalah, unto Kirjath-Jearim that `is' to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God Jehovah, inhabiting the cherubs, where the Name is called on.

7 Ref And they place the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio are leading the cart,

8 Ref and David and all Israel are playing before God, with all strength, and with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9 Ref And they come in unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, and Uzza putteth forth his hand to seize the ark, for the oxen were released,

10 Ref and the anger of Jehovah is kindled against Uzza, and He smiteth him, because that he hath put forth his hand on the ark, and he dieth there before God.

11 Ref And it is displeasing to David, because Jehovah hath made a breach upon Uzza, and one calleth that place `Breach of Uzza' unto this day.

12 Ref And David feareth God on that day, saying, `How do I bring in unto me the ark of God?'

13 Ref And David hath not turned aside the ark unto himself, unto the city of David, and turneth it aside unto the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

14 Ref And the ark of God dwelleth with the household of Obed-Edom, in his house, three months, and Jehovah blesseth the house of Obed-Edom, and all that he hath.

King James Version (KJV)

1 Ref And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.

2 Ref And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:

3 Ref And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we inquired not at it in the days of Saul.

4 Ref And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

5 Ref So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjathjearim.

6 Ref And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubim, whose name is called on it.

7 Ref And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart.

8 Ref And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9 Ref And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

10 Ref And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.

11 Ref And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perezuzza to this day.

12 Ref And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?

13 Ref So David brought not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

14 Ref And the ark of God remained with the family of Obededom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obededom, and all that he had.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref Then David had discussions with the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds and with every chief.

2 Ref And David said to all the men of Israel who had come together there, If it seems good to you and if it is the purpose of the Lord our God, let us send to all the rest of our brothers, everywhere in the land of Israel, and to the priests and the Levites in their towns and the country round them, and get them to come together here to us;

3 Ref And let us get back for ourselves the ark of our God: for in the days of Saul we did not go to it for directions.

4 Ref And all the people said they would do so, for it seemed right to them.

5 Ref So David sent for all Israel to come together, from Shihor, the river of Egypt, as far as the way into Hamath, to get the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

6 Ref And David went up, with all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim in Judah, to get up from there the ark of God, over which the holy Name is named, the name of the Lord whose place is between the winged ones.

7 Ref And they put the ark of God on a new cart, and took it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio were the drivers of the cart.

8 Ref Then David and all Israel made melody before God with all their strength, with songs and corded instruments of music, and with brass instruments and horns.

9 Ref And when they came to the grain-floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to keep the ark in its place, for the oxen were slipping.

10 Ref And the wrath of the Lord, burning against Uzza, sent destruction on him because he had put his hand on the ark, and death came to him there before God.

11 Ref And David was angry because of the Lord's outburst of wrath against Uzza, and he gave that place the name Perez-uzza, to this day.

12 Ref And so great was David's fear of God that day, that he said, How may I let the ark of God come to me?

13 Ref So David did not let the ark come back to him to the town of David, but had it turned away and put into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

14 Ref And the ark of God was in the house of Obed-edom for three months; and the Lord sent a blessing on the house of Obed-edom and on all he had.
