John 14
American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)
1 Ref Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.
2 Ref In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 Ref And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, `there' ye may be also.
4 Ref And whither I go, ye know the way.
5 Ref Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?
6 Ref Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 Ref If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Ref Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Ref Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?
10 Ref Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.
11 Ref Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Ref Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater `works' than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
13 Ref And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.
15 Ref If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.
16 Ref And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,
17 Ref `even' the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.
18 Ref I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.
19 Ref Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 Ref In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 Ref He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.
22 Ref Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Ref Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 Ref He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
25 Ref These things have I spoken unto you, while `yet' abiding with you.
26 Ref But the Comforter, `even' the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.
27 Ref Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
28 Ref Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.
29 Ref And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.
30 Ref I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;
31 Ref but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Bible in Basic English (BBE)
1 Ref Let not your heart be troubled: have faith in God and have faith in me.
2 Ref In my Father's house are rooms enough; if it was not so, would I have said that I am going to make ready a place for you?
3 Ref And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am.
4 Ref And you all have knowledge of where I am going, and of the way to it.
5 Ref Thomas said, Lord, we have no knowledge of where you are going; how may we have knowledge of the way?
6 Ref Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by me.
7 Ref If you had knowledge of me, you would have knowledge of my Father: you have knowledge of him now and have seen him.
8 Ref Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more.
9 Ref Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father?
10 Ref Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works.
11 Ref Have faith that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me: at least, have faith in me because of what I do.
12 Ref Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father.
13 Ref And whatever request you make in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may have glory in the Son.
14 If you make any request to me in my name, I will do it.
15 Ref If you have love for me, you will keep my laws.
16 Ref And I will make prayer to the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you for ever,
17 Ref Even the Spirit of true knowledge. That Spirit the world is not able to take to its heart because it sees him not and has no knowledge of him: but you have knowledge of him, because he is ever with you and will be in you.
18 Ref I will not let you be without a friend: I am coming to you.
19 Ref A little time longer, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me; and you will be living because I am living.
20 Ref At that time it will be clear to you that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I in you.
21 Ref He who has my laws and keeps them, he it is who has love for me: and he who has love for me will be loved by my Father, and I will have love for him and will let myself be seen clearly by him.
22 Ref Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, How is it that you will let yourself be seen clearly by us and not by the world?
23 Ref Jesus said to him in answer, If anyone has love for me, he will keep my words: and he will be dear to my Father; and we will come to him and make our living-place with him.
24 Ref He who has no love for me does not keep my words; and the word which you are hearing is not my word but the Father's who sent me.
25 Ref I have said all this to you while I am still with you.
26 Ref But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will be your teacher in all things and will put you in mind of everything I have said to you.
27 Ref May peace be with you; my peace I give to you: I give it not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled; let it be without fear.
28 Ref Keep in mind how I said to you, I go away and come to you again. If you had love for me you would be glad, because I am going to the Father: for the Father is greater than I.
29 Ref And now I have given you word of it before it comes, so that, when it comes, you may have faith.
30 Ref After this I will not say much to you, because the ruler of this world comes: and he has no power over me;
31 Ref But he comes so that the world may see that I have love for the Father, and that I am doing as I am ordered by the Father. Get up, and let us go.
