^{1 Ref} And he entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.

^{2 Ref} And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven.

^{3 Ref} And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

^{4 Ref} And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

^{5 Ref} For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and walk?

^{6 Ref} But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the sick of the palsy), Arise, and take up thy bed, and go up unto thy house.

⁷ And he arose, and departed to his house.

^{8 Ref} But when the multitudes saw it, they were afraid, and glorified God, who had given such authority unto men.

^{9 Ref} And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

^{10 Ref} And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

^{11 Ref} And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners?

^{12 Ref} But when he heard it, he said, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick.

^{13 Ref} But go ye and learn what `this' meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

^{14 Ref} Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

^{15 Ref} And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast.

^{16 Ref} And no man putteth a piece of undressed cloth upon an old garment; for that which should fill it up taketh from the garment, and a worse rent is made.

^{17 Ref} Neither do `men' put new wine into old wine-skins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins, and both are preserved.

^{18 Ref} While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

^{19 Ref} And Jesus arose, and followed him, and `so did' his disciples.

^{20 Ref} And behold, a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment:

^{21 Ref} for she said within herself, If I do but touch his garment, I shall be made whole.

^{22 Ref} But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

^{23 Ref} And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the flute-players, and the crowd making a tumult,

^{24 Ref} he said, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

^{25 Ref} But when the crowd was put forth, he entered in, and took her by the hand; and the damsel arose.

^{26 Ref} And the fame hereof went forth into all that land.

^{27 Ref} And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David.

^{28 Ref} And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

^{29 Ref} Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you.

^{30 Ref} And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

^{31 Ref} But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

^{32 Ref} And as they went forth, behold, there was brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon.

^{33 Ref} And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

^{34 Ref} But the Pharisees said, By the prince of the demons casteth he out demons.

^{35 Ref} And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

^{36 Ref} But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd.

^{37 Ref} Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few.

^{38 Ref} Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.

^{9 Ref} As Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, "Follow me." He got up and followed him.

^{10 Ref} It happened as he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

^{11 Ref} When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

^{12 Ref} When Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.

^{13 Ref} But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

^{14 Ref} Then John's disciples came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?"

^{15 Ref} Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

^{16 Ref} No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.

^{18 Ref} While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."

^{19 Ref} Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.

^{20 Ref} Behold, a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years came behind him, and touched the tassels of his garment;

^{21 Ref} for she said within herself, "If I just touch his garment, I will be made well."

^{22 Ref} But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, "Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.

^{23 Ref} When Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

^{24 Ref} he said to them, "Make room, because the girl isn't dead, but sleeping." They were ridiculing him.

^{25 Ref} But when the crowd was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose.

^{26 Ref} The report of this went out into all that land.

^{27 Ref} As Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying, "Have mercy on us, son of David!"

^{28 Ref} When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They told him, "Yes, Lord."

^{29 Ref} Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you."

^{30 Ref} Their eyes were opened. Jesus strictly charged them, saying, "See that no one knows about this."

^{31 Ref} But they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

^{32 Ref} As they went out, behold, a mute man who was demon possessed was brought to him.

^{33 Ref} When the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. The multitudes marveled, saying, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!"

^{34 Ref} But the Pharisees said, "By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons."

^{35 Ref} Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

^{36 Ref} But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed{TR reads "weary" instead of "harassed"} and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.

^{3 Ref} And some of the scribes said among themselves, This man has no respect for God.

^{4 Ref} And Jesus, having knowledge of what was in their minds, said, Why are your thoughts evil?

^{5 Ref} For which is the simpler, to say, You have forgiveness for your sins; or to say, Get up and go?

^{6 Ref} But so that you may see that on earth the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins, (then said he to the man who was ill,) Get up, and take up your bed, and go to your house.

⁷ And he got up and went away to his house.

^{8 Ref} But when the people saw it they were full of fear, and gave glory to God who had given such authority to men.

^{9 Ref} And when Jesus was going from there, he saw a man whose name was Matthew, seated at the place where taxes were taken; and he said to him, Come after me. And he got up and went after him.

^{10 Ref} And it came about, when he was in the house taking food, that a number of tax-farmers and sinners came and took their places with Jesus and his disciples.

^{11 Ref} And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why does your Master take food with tax-farmers and sinners?

^{12 Ref} But on hearing this he said, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill.

^{13 Ref} But go and take to heart the sense of these words, My desire is for mercy, not offerings: for I have come not to get the upright, but sinners.

^{14 Ref} Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees frequently go without food, but your disciples do not?

^{15 Ref} And Jesus said to them, Will the friends of the newly-married man be sad as long as he is with them? But the days will come when he will be taken away from them, and then will they go without food.

^{16 Ref} And no man puts a bit of new cloth on an old coat, for by pulling away from the old, it makes a worse hole.

^{17 Ref} And men do not put new wine into old wine-skins; or the skins will be burst and the wine will come out, and the skins are of no more use: but they put new wine into new wine-skins, and so the two will be safe.

^{18 Ref} While he was saying these things to them, there came a ruler and gave him worship, saying, My daughter is even now dead; but come and put your hand on her, and she will come back to life.

^{19 Ref} And Jesus got up and went after him, and so did his disciples.

^{20 Ref} And a woman, who for twelve years had had a flow of blood, came after him, and put her hand on the edge of his robe:

^{21 Ref} Because, she said to herself, if I may but put my hand on his robe, I will be made well.

^{22 Ref} But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, Daughter, take heart; your faith has made you well. And the woman was made well from that hour.

^{23 Ref} And when Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the players with their instruments and the people making a noise,

^{24 Ref} He said, Make room; for the girl is not dead, but sleeping. And they were laughing at him.

^{25 Ref} But when the people were sent out, he went in and took her by the hand; and the girl got up.

^{26 Ref} And the news of it went out into all that land.

^{31 Ref} But they went out and gave news of him in all that land.

^{32 Ref} And while they were going away, there came to him a man without the power of talking, and with an evil spirit.

^{33 Ref} And when the evil spirit had been sent out, the man had the power of talking: and they were all surprised, saying, Such a thing has never been seen in Israel.

^{34 Ref} But the Pharisees said, By the ruler of evil spirits, he sends evil spirits out of men.

^{35 Ref} And Jesus went about all the towns and small places, teaching in their Synagogues and preaching the good news of the kingdom and making well all sorts of disease and pain.

^{36 Ref} But when he saw all the people he was moved with pity for them, because they were troubled and wandering like sheep without a keeper.

^{37 Ref} Then he said to his disciples, There is much grain but not enough men to get it in.

^{38 Ref} Make prayer, then, to the Lord of the grain-fields, that he may send out workers to get in his grain.
