2 Timothy 3
American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)
1 Ref But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come.
2 Ref For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Ref without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good,
4 Ref traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;
5 Ref holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.
6 Ref For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts,
7 Ref ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Ref And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth. Men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 Ref But they shall proceed no further. For their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be.
10 Ref But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,
11 Ref persecutions, sufferings. What things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Ref Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 Ref But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 Ref But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.
15 Ref And that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 Ref Every scripture inspired of God `is' also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness.
17 Ref That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Ref And this know thou, that in the last days there shall come perilous times,
2 Ref for men shall be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, evil-speakers, to parents disobedient, unthankful, unkind,
3 Ref without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, not lovers of those who are good,
4 Ref traitors, heady, lofty, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God,
5 Ref having a form of piety, and its power having denied; and from these be turning away,
6 Ref for of these there are those coming into the houses and leading captive the silly women, laden with sins, led away with desires manifold,
7 Ref always learning, and never to a knowledge of truth able to come,
8 Ref and, even as Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses, so also these do stand against the truth, men corrupted in mind, disapproved concerning the faith;
9 Ref but they shall not advance any further, for their folly shall be manifest to all, as theirs also did become.
10 Ref And thou -- thou hast followed after my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faith, long-suffering, love, endurance,
11 Ref the persecutions, the afflictions, that befel me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of all the Lord did deliver me,
12 Ref and all also who will to live piously in Christ Jesus shall be persecuted,
13 Ref and evil men and impostors shall advance to the worse, leading astray and being led astray.
14 Ref And thou -- be remaining in the things which thou didst learn and wast entrusted with, having known from whom thou didst learn,
15 Ref and because from a babe the Holy Writings thou hast known, which are able to make thee wise -- to salvation, through faith that `is' in Christ Jesus;
16 Ref every Writing `is' God-breathed, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for setting aright, for instruction that `is' in righteousness,
17 Ref that the man of God may be fitted -- for every good work having been completed.
Bible in Basic English (BBE)
1 Ref But be certain of this, that in the last days times of trouble will come.
2 Ref For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, uplifted in pride, given to bitter words, going against the authority of their fathers, never giving praise, having no religion,
3 Ref Without natural love, bitter haters, saying evil of others, violent and uncontrolled, hating all good,
4 Ref False to their friends, acting without thought, lifted up in mind, loving pleasure more than God;
5 Ref Having a form of religion, but turning their backs on the power of it: go not with these.
6 Ref For these are they who go secretly into houses, making prisoners of foolish women, weighted down with sin, turned from the way by their evil desires,
7 Ref Ever learning, and never coming to the knowledge of what is true.
8 Ref And as James and Jambres went against Moses, so do these go against what is true: men of evil minds, who, tested by faith, are seen to be false.
9 Ref But they will go no farther: for their foolish behaviour will be clear to all men, as theirs was in the end.
10 Ref But you took as your example my teaching, behaviour, purpose, and faith; my long waiting, my love, my quiet undergoing of trouble;
11 Ref My punishments and pain; the things which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; the cruel attacks made on me: and the Lord made me free from them all.
12 Ref Yes, and all whose purpose is to be living in the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus, will be cruelly attacked.
13 Ref Evil and false men will become worse and worse, using deceit and themselves overcome by deceit.
14 Ref But see that you keep to the teaching you have been given and the things of which you are certain, conscious of who has been your teacher;
15 Ref And that from the time when you were a child, you have had knowledge of the holy Writings, which are able to make you wise to salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 Ref Every holy Writing which comes from God is of profit for teaching, for training, for guiding, for education in righteousness:
17 Ref So that the man of God may be complete, trained and made ready for every good work.
