Isaiah 63

World English Bible (WEB)

1 Ref Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength? I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

2 Ref Why are you red in your clothing, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat?

3 Ref I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.

4 Ref For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

5 Ref I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation to me; and my wrath, it upheld me.

6 Ref I trod down the peoples in my anger, and made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.

7 Ref I will make mention of the loving kindnesses of Yahweh, [and] the praises of Yahweh, according to all that Yahweh has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

8 Ref For he said, Surely, they are my people, children who will not deal falsely: so he was their Savior.

9 Ref In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

10 Ref But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, [and] himself fought against them.

11 Ref Then he remembered the days of old, Moses [and] his people, [saying], Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? where is he who put his holy Spirit in the midst of them?

12 Ref who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses? who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name?

13 Ref who led them through the depths, as a horse in the wilderness, so that they didn't stumble?

14 Ref As the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of Yahweh caused them to rest; so did you lead your people, to make yourself a glorious name.

15 Ref Look down from heaven, and see from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where are your zeal and your mighty acts? the yearning of your heart and your compassion is restrained toward me.

16 Ref For you are our Father, though Abraham doesn't know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us: you, Yahweh, are our Father; our Redeemer from everlasting is your name.

17 Ref O Yahweh, why do you make us to err from your ways, and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

18 Ref Your holy people possessed [it] but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary.

19 Ref We are become as they over whom you never bear rule, as those who were not called by your name.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref `Who `is' this coming from Edom? With dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is honourable in his clothing, Travelling in the abundance of his power?' -- `I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.'

2 Ref `Wherefore `is' thy clothing red? And thy garments as treading in a wine fat?'

3 Ref -- `A wine-press I have trodden by myself, And of the peoples there is no one with me, And I tread them in mine anger, And I trample them in my fury, Sprinkled is their strength on my garments, And all my clothing I have polluted.

4 Ref For the day of vengeance `is' in my heart, And the year of my redeemed hath come.

5 Ref And I look attentively, and there is none helping, And I am astonished that there is none supporting, And give salvation to me doth mine own arm. And my wrath -- it hath supported me.

6 Ref And I tread down peoples in mine anger, And I make them drunk in my fury, And I bring down to earth their strength.

7 Ref The kind acts of Jehovah I make mention of, The praises of Jehovah, According to all that Jehovah hath done for us, And the abundance of the goodness to the house of Israel, That He hath done for them, According to His mercies, And according to the abundance of His kind acts.

8 Ref And He saith, Only My people they `are', Sons -- they lie not, and He is to them for a saviour.

9 Ref In all their distress `He is' no adversary, And the messenger of His presence saved them, In His love and in His pity He redeemed them, And He doth lift them up, And beareth them all the days of old.

10 Ref And they have rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit, And He turneth to them for an enemy, He Himself hath fought against them.

11 Ref And He remembereth the days of old, Moses -- his people. Where `is' He who is bringing them up from the sea, The shepherd of his flock? Where `is' He who is putting in its midst His Holy Spirit?

12 Ref Leading by the right hand of Moses, the arm of His glory, Cleaving waters from before them, To make to Himself a name age-during.

13 Ref Leading them through the depths, As a horse in a plain they stumble not.

14 Ref As a beast into a valley goeth down, The Spirit of Jehovah causeth him to rest, So hast Thou led Thy people, To make to Thyself a glorious name.

15 Ref Look attentively from the heavens, And see from Thy holy and beauteous habitation, Where `is' Thy zeal and Thy might? The multitude of Thy bowels and Thy mercies Towards me have refrained themselves.

16 Ref For Thou `art' our Father, For Abraham hath not known us, And Israel doth not acknowledge us, Thou, O Jehovah, `art' our Father, Our redeemer from the age, `is' Thy name.

17 Ref Why causest Thou us to wander, O Jehovah, from Thy ways? Thou hardenest our heart from Thy fear, Turn back for Thy servants' sake, The tribes of Thine inheritance.

18 Ref For a little while did Thy holy people possess, Our adversaries have trodden down Thy sanctuary.

19 Ref We have been from of old, Thou hast not ruled over them, Not called is Thy name upon them!
